Blackstone Valley Prep Board of Directors Appoints New High School Leader

Cumberland, RI – Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) Board of Directors voted unanimously to appoint Michaela Keegan as the new Head of School for BVP High School. Dr. Keegan is currently assistant principal at Cole Middle School in East Greenwich and will join BVP for the 2017-18 school year.

Executive Director Jeremy Chiappetta enthusiastically recommended Michaela following a series of interviews during which she met with senior leadership, high school teachers, scholars, and families. “After each step of the interview process, it became more and more evident that Dr. Keegan is the leader we have been looking for.” Dr. Keegan stood out among a very competitive field of 76 applicants for the role. “We are are eager for her to join the team full-time.”

Dr. Keegan holds a B.A. from the University of Rhode Island, an MAT from Rhode Island College, and an EdD from Johnson & Wales University. Prior to her role in East Greenwich, Keegan was a principal in Providence Public Schools for three years at Juanita Sanchez Comprehensive High School. Dr. Keegan has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Rhode Island College. “The mission of BVP is my mission. Bringing a variety of stakeholders together to work collaboratively is what I do best.” Keegan also spoke to how much the Principal Residency Network has supported her own growth as a leader, first as a participant and later as a mentor for new principals.

Chiappetta will continue to serve as interim leader for the high school through the remainder of the school year. Construction of the high school’s permanent home is ongoing and is scheduled to be completed Fall 2017.
