Ms. Colarusso Head of School Blackstone Valley Prep Elementary 2
Ms. Colarusso is the founding Head of School of Blackstone Valley Prep Elementary 2. She joined the BVP family as a Kindergarten teacher in 2009. Colarusso started her career in education as a Teach for America Corps Member teaching both Kindergarten and First Grade in the urban school district of Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Florida. A native resident of Massachusetts, Ms. Colarusso holds a dual bachelor's degree in History and Spanish from Regis College and a master's degree from the Mind, Brain, and Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is also a graduate of the Principal Residency Network. She has previously worked in both traditional public and public charter schools in her home state.
Sulina Mohanty, Dean of Students
Ms. Mohanty was born and raised in Rhode Island and is a very proud graduate of the University of Rhode Island where she majored in Human Development and Family Studies. After graduating, she worked as a special education teacher and leader at schools in Phoenix and Washington, DC and also earned her Master's in Special Education. Most recently, she worked for Teach for America in Massachusetts to provide professional development and support to new teachers. In her free time, Ms. Mohanty enjoys spending time with her friends and family, dance parties, and exploring the great state of RI. She is extremely excited to be back in RI to work with our scholars and their families!
Yasmin Heras, Office Manager
Mrs. Heras is the Office Manager for ES2. She enjoys working at ES2 and being a part of such a wonderful team of teachers and staff. She graduated from Rhode Island College School of Social Work, and pursued her education at Metropolitan College of New York with a BS in Human Service. She enjoys spending time with her family. Mrs. Heras previously lived in NY, and worked for 15 years with many non-profit organizations for low income families. She is looking forward to another amazing year with our wonderful scholars and their familes.
Alex Calpa, Office Support Staff
Ms. Boyle is thrilled to be joining the BVP team as a first grade teacher this year! As a resident from Rhode Island College, she will be graduating in the spring of 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood/Special Education. Ms. Boyle has had many opportunities to teach in surrounding public schools and is eager to share her passion and enthusiasm with the BVP family.
Miss Gavzy recently graduated from Salve Regina University, where she studied Early Childhood, Special Education, and French. During her student teaching experience, Miss Gavzy taught Second Grade at Underwood Elementary School in Newport, RI. In her spare time, Miss Gavzy loves reading, horseback riding, and spending time with her family and friends. Miss Gavzy is incredibly passionate about teaching, and beyond excited to begin her career at BVP!
Ms. Hayes is currently teaching her fourth year with BVP. She is a proud graduate of Salve Regina University where she majored in Early Childhood Education and minored in Special Education. During high school and college she danced on her school's dance teams and has taught dance to children between the ages of 3 and 10. Ms. Hayes is looking forward to another exciting and successful year at Blackstone Valley Prep!
Ms. Lyons is currently teaching her third year at BVP. She recently received her Master's Degree at Providence College in Special Education K-8. Ms. Lyons completed her undergraduate studies at Salve Regina University where she majored in Early Childhood Education and minored in Special Education. Shecompleted her student teaching for graduate school at the Bradley School in Wakefield and her undergraduate in kindergarten at Aquidneck Elementary School in Middletown, RI. Ms. Lyons is excited to continue teaching at BVP to lead our scholars to a bright and successful future.
Ms. Niedmann can't wait for her first year as a Kindergarten teacher at BVP! She graduated from Salve Regina University with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Special Education. She also played for her school's soccer and basketball team during her time at Salve. While living in Newport, RI, she taught children in first grade, Kindergarten and preschool. In her free time, Ms. Niedmann loves to go to the beach and read. She is eager to spend time with her scholars and ready to put them all on the path to college!
Miss. Nunes is new to the BVP team this year and is very excited to jump into kindergarten! She attended Rhode Island College where she received her BS in Early Childhood Education. She ran cross country and track & field in college, and still runs with a group of friends today. Miss. Nunes loves to go on adventures including: biking Block Island, climbing mountains, running 1/2 marathons, and skydiving. She is extremely excited to share her passion with the new kindergarten scholars at BVP ES2!
Mrs. Smorol was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. She graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland with her BS in Elementary Education in 2000. She relocated to RI in 2004, where she taught children at the kindergarten through fifth grade level at Mt. Pleasant Academy, a day treatment facility for children with emotional/behavioral needs. During this time, she continued her professional growth through collaboration with The Autism Project and graduate level courses at Johnson and Wales University promoting positive practices for children. Julie resides in Cranston, RI with her husband and two children. Mrs. Smorol joined Blackstone Valley Prep in 2011 and is very excited for another amazing school year.
Ms. Corriveault is very excited to join BVP this year! She is a recent graduate of Stonehill College, where she majored in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. Ms. Corriveault has had the pleasure of working with children of all different ages, from preschool students to students in fourth and fifth grade. She is currently looking into starting a Master's program. Besides teaching, Ms. Corriveault enjoys running, traveling, and going to the beach.
Ms. Donahue is excited to start her third year at BVP ES2. She is a 2011 graduate of Rhode Island College where she majored in Elementary Education and Special Education. During college she worked as a substitute teacher at the Evergreen Center working with children with Autism and severe developmental disabilities. She is very excited to begin her new role and is very proud to be a part of Blackstone Valley Prep's incredible team to lead our scholars to a successful future.
Ms. Putta is new to the BVP team this year and is so excited to be working with such enthusiastic, PRIDEful scholars! She grew up in Princeton, New Jersey and attended Tufts University in Medford, MA. Ms. Putta studied International Relations in college and studied abroad in Madrid, Spain. Ms. Putta loves to practice her Spanish! In her free time, Ms. Putta loves to travel, bake and cook new recipes, and hang out with family and friends.
Ms. Smith grew up in Rhode Island, but has lived in Pennsylvania and Connecticut for the past six years. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2011 with degrees in Public Policy and Decision Science. In college, she played soccer and lacrosse and gave tours to prospective students. After graduation, she joined Teach for America and taught 4th and 5th grade in Hartford, Connecticut. While teaching in Connecticut, Ms. Smith attended Southern Connecticut State University where she earned a Master's in Elementary Education. Ms. Smith is very excited to teach first grade scholars at Blackstone Valley Prep and is especially excited to teach PRIDE values.
Ms. Stout is extremely enthusiastic to be teaching first grade at BVP this year! She was born and raised in Hackettstown, New Jersey. She then moved to Newport, Rhode Island and graduated from Salve Regina University with dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. While living in Newport, she taught in first, second and third grade. Later, she moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina to teach second grade. Clearly, she missed Rhode Island and was thrilled to join the wonderful team at BVP, so she returned a year later! Ms. Stout enjoys traveling, going to the beach and watching the Giants Football team win!!
Mrs. Thibeault graduated from Rhode Island College in 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education. Born and raised in Rhode Island, she is passionate about working with scholars and has extensive experience working with youth from different districts in Rhode Island. Ms. Bunn recently returned from a ten day "Teacher Trek" through Israel visiting unique schools learning classroom and school wide techniques that she has brought back into her own classroom. Mrs. Thibeault is elated to part of the BVP ES2 team and is dedicated to getting every scholar on their path to college.
Mr. D'Avanzo is excited to begin his third year at BVP ES2 as a member of the 2nd grade team. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and International Relations from Brown University. He is a former member of the Brown men's soccer team and is still involved as a coach in local and youth soccer leagues. In the fall of 2009, Mr. D'Avanzo studied abroad in Havana, Cuba, where he taught English to adults in his community. In his free time, Mr. D'Avanzo enjoys playing guitar, soccer and cooking. He is a proud member of the BVP community and is 100% committed to the success of all scholars.
Ms. Delano is a Teach For America corps member who has found her true passion in teaching, and is excited to be a part of our second grade team! She adores finding adventures in reading and writing, and is looking forward to enthusiastically sharing the adventure with all of her incoming second graders. Miss Delano is committed to instilling a love of learning and feeling of success within each of her students.
Ms. Delaney graduated from Brown University in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. After graduation she joined Teach For America and taught for five years at Amistad Elementary in New Haven. Ms. Delaney also holds a Master's Degree in Special Education from Fairfield University. She loves reading, running, and swimming. Ms. Delaney is very excited to be part of the BVP team!
Ms. Grant was born and raised in Warwick, RI. She graduated from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. While in college she played NCAA varsity volleyball for 2 years. When she graduated in 2011, she began substitute teaching in the West Warwick Public School District. She did this until January 2012, when she was asked to join the BVP Middle School team working as a Special Education teacher in the fifth grade. Last year she taught in the first grade at ES2, and this year she will be teaching the second graders! She is looking forward to this school year and can't wait to see the wonders that emanate from each and every scholar.
Ms. Harrison is very excited to start her third year teaching at BVP! She graduated from Brown University in 2011 and was a member of Brown women's cross country and track teams. She is also a Teach for America Rhode Island alum. In her free time she enjoys coaching track at the middle school, competing in triathlons and spending time with her family and friends. Ms. Harrison is excited to move up to second grade with her scholars and can't wait to see everything they accomplish this year!
A Cumberland native, Mrs. Tucker, formerly Ms. Covino, returned to the great state of Rhode Island after teaching four years in both traditional public and charter schools in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She earned her Bachelor's Degrees in French and Public Policy at Syracuse University. Being passionate about working with youth, she joined Teach for America in 2008 and was certified through the New Teacher Project. Mrs. Tucker has taught kindergarten and first grade during her six years in public education. In her free time she enjoys playing with her niece, walking her dog, and reading books.

Raffi Rachdouni, Music
Mr. Rachdouni is very eager to return to BVP for his third year of teaching. At the age of 6, he discovered his love for music while learning to play the piano. Since Mr. Rachdouni graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor's of Music in 2011, he is now pursuing his Master's Degree to further his Music Education. Mr. Rachdouni is extremely excited to continue teaching these bright scholars everything he knows about music.
Katelyn Guignard, Art
Ms. Guignard was born and raised in New Jersey. She went to college at Rhode Island College and decided to stay in Rhode Island after college. Miss Guignard holds a BA in Art Education, and is looking forward to starting a Master's program in the coming year. She has three years of art teaching experience in grades K-5. She is very excited to be teaching art at ES2 this year. She enjoys running, yoga, bike riding, sewing, traveling, and going to the beach.
Brian Rego, P.E./Health
Mr. Rego comes to BVP with ten years of experience working in an after school program he started at Peacedale Elementary School at a diverse public elementary school. He recently graduated from the University of Rhode Island.
Student Support Services
Erika Bento, Nurse
Ms. Bento is a graduate of Rhode Island College School of Nursing. Erika has worked in the NICU at Women and Infants and is currently also a nurse in the Hasbro Emergency department. She is very excited to be part of the BVP team and eager to work with all of the ES2 scholars. Erika resides in Pawtucket with her fiance, dog Stanley, and cats Cooper and Mr. Freeze
Katie Lorraine, Interventionist
Ms. Lorraine graduated from Rhode Island College in 2011 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a specialization in Special Education (mild/moderate and severe/profound). She is super excited to start the year in her new role as Kindergarten Special Educator. She looks forward to another year filled with lots of learning and many successes!
Casey McIntyre, Special Educator
Ms. McIntyre is a Cumberland native. She is a Rhode Island College graduate with degrees in Elementary Education, Mild/Moderate Special Education and Severe/Profound Special Education. Before coming to BVP, Ms. McIntyre was a substitute teacher at the Northern Rhode Island Collaborative where she worked with children ages 3-21 with severe developmental disabilities. She is looking forward to another great year at BVP!
Marisa Soch, Social Worker
Mrs. Soch received a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Clark University, a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University, and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Boston University. She has worked with children and families in school, community, hospital and office settings in San Diego, Worcester and throughout Rhode Island for more than a decade. Mrs. Soch is thrilled to be working with BVP elementary school scholars at ES1 and ES2!
