Reflection on the Tragedy in Florida

Wednesday night’s school shooting in Florida is yet another incredibly sobering reminder of the evil that exists in the world today. There have been nearly 300 documented school shootings since 2013.

My highest priority ‒ and that of our teachers and staff ‒ is the safety of your children. At Blackstone Valley Prep, we believe that it is our duty to be constantly vigilant, to partner with local law enforcement, and to regularly administer trainings to ensure we know what actions we must take in the event of an emergency. We frequently conduct drills in partnership with our local police departments. We consistently review our policies and procedures, and assess our security protocols. That said, no amount of preparation or drills will ever prepare us for every possible scenario, or will help any community stop the pure evil that is behind these school shootings.

This is an important reminder to all of us about how important it is to talk with our children ‒ ask how their day was, who their friends are, what they talk about, what they see on TV or the internet, and what they hear from others.

I ask that everyone in the BVP community be ever vigilant so we can create the safest school community possible. If you see something, say something. Please reach out to your child’s Head of School, our Chief Operations Officer, Mike DeMatteo, or me if you have anything to share.

Most sincerely,

Jeremy Chiappetta
CEO
