Our Recruitment & Hiring Process

These steps represent a typical hiring process, but your experience may vary. We believe strongly in mutual fit, and encourage all candidates to ask questions throughout the process.

  1. Online Application. Submit your resume and cover letter online. We will carefully review your qualifications to assess whether you are a strong match for the role. Due to the volume of applications we receive, only candidates invited to advance in the hiring process will be contacted.
  2. Phone Interview. We will contact you to schedule a phone interview with a BVP staff member.
  3. Hiring exercises. Candidates for non-instructional roles are often invited to submit a hiring exercise that is similar to the day-to-day work for the open position.
  4. In-Person Interview. Select candidates will be invited to an in-person interview at BVP. The interview agenda varies depending on the open position, but all teaching candidates should expect to teach a demonstration lesson to a group of BVP scholars as part of the interview process.
  5. Reference Review. Following the in-person interview, BVP will contact professional references to further vet candidates.
  6. Final Decision. You will be notified of a final decision following the reference review. Successful candidates will receive an offer of employment, dependent on a National Licensing and Employment Background Check.

How long does it take to be notified for an interview?

The timeline for each position varies. As long as a position is posted on our website, it is still possible that you will be asked to participate in an interview.

All BVP contracts are annual with renewals occurring in the spring prior to the upcoming school year.

Can I apply to more than one opening?

In general, we recommend only applying for one opening. When you do, we typically consider your candidacy for multiple openings that you may be qualified for. For example, if you apply to a high school math position, we will automatically also consider you for a middle school math position. However, if you see two relatively different positions that you’re interested in applying to (high school math and Dean of Culture), you should apply to both openings, with a tailored cover letter for each position.

What benefits do you offer to staff?

In addition to base salaries, BVP offers a highly competitive benefits package, including plans that pay 80% of comprehensive medical and dental insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, a $50,000 life insurance policy, 401(k) matching of 5% that is immediately fully vested, professional development, tuition reimbursement opportunities, and a return bonus of 2%.
