High School at BVP
Our High School Model – grades 9-12
In 2021, Blackstone Valley Prep High School was named the #6 High School in Rhode Island by U.S. News & World Report and the #1 Best Charter High School in Rhode Island by Niche.com!
At Blackstone Valley Prep High School, we want our classrooms to be a microcosm of thinking—a place where scholars are responsible for owning the cognitive lift in the lesson and where they are given multiple opportunities to engage with new content and skills every day. We focus on high expectations, high engagement, and making scholar thinking visible. Our academic program is aligned to Common Core, Next Generation Science, Pre-Advanced Placement, and Advanced Placement standards. High school scholars observe a rotating schedule of eight classes (six per day).
To best support our scholars, there are opportunities for personalization and acceleration within our rigorous academic course load. Additionally, we implement a one-to-one mentoring program that allows every scholar to receive the coaching, support, and guidance necessary for success throughout their academic journey.

Advanced Course Network
Former Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), and stakeholders across our state created the Advanced Course Network as a way to better prepare students throughout Rhode Island for success. BVP’s participation provides our scholars with access to a catalog of more than 50 college and career preparatory courses offered by Rhode Island colleges and universities, community-based organizations, and other school districts.
By taking advantage of dual enrollment or advanced placement courses offered, our scholars will be able to earn college credits while attending high school and reduce the time it takes to earn a college degree.
CCRI Running Start Program
BVP participates in Running Start, a dual enrollment program offered at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) for high school seniors who have demonstrated the academic achievement and maturity necessary to enroll in college courses during their senior year of high school.
Seniors who study at CCRI earn credit for high school graduation and earn college credit simultaneously, reducing the amount of time it takes to earn a postsecondary degree.
All About Time
Time is not a commodity at BVP; time is golden. There is no time to waste, and that is perhaps one of our most deeply held beliefs.

We want to spend more time analyzing text at deeper levels, supporting writers to better articulate their ideas, offering opportunities to invent new pathways to solving mathematical problems, exploring our scientific experiments further.
We believe in capitalizing on every single moment with scholars and extending the learning when scholars are not with us. That’s where homework comes in. We have big goals for our scholars, and the bar is high in order for our scholars to compete in today’s global economy. Knowing that, we can’t stop the learning when the school bell rings.
