Here we are – it’s the last day of school before winter break. Scholars have just been dismissed and staff are not too far behind them. 🙂 You won’t be hearing as much from us until the new year while even our Network team takes some time to spend the holiday season with family and friends. For our families, we would be remiss if we didn’t remind everyone to read with their scholars for 30 minutes a day! Everyone grades K-8 will be bringing home break packets to complete as well.

We didn’t want to sign off, however, before previewing for you an exciting opportunity we have for the greater Rhode Island community to partner with BVP and our high school scholars. With our current juniors poised to be the first class of graduating seniors from BVP High School (!!!), we know we must provide experiences outside of the classroom now that equip our oldest scholars with the tools and knowledge necessary to be successful on a college campus and the workplace. Partnerships with community based organizations, businesses, and governmental organizations throughout Rhode Island (with a particular focus on the greater Blackstone Valley area) can help propel this vision forward.

That’s why we’re launching our Partners for Success initiative. Partners will be able to provide any of the following opportunities for students:

  • A Day in the Life Job Shadow Days – Open your workspace up for scholars to experience a day in your shoes! Our first shadow days will be held February 20-23: Sign-up HERE.
  • PRIDE Internships – Host an intern for 6 weeks to provide scholars with real-life work experience. One that enhances their communication, time-management, and networking skills.
  • To and Through College Mentorship – Mentor a scholar by being a voice of support and encouragement as they navigate high school and they explore college and career opportunities.

We would like to count on as many of you reading this as possible in the new year and help us collectively make an impact in our state. You can begin by completing this interest form.

From all of us at BVP, Happy Holiday to you and yours!
